Angela Mwandanda
The Art of Singing should be considered as one of the greatest accomplishments of the human nature. As such it requires consistent studies in order to develop and control the individual natural beauty of the voice.
Singing is as truly the soul of Harmony. The power and compass of the human voice are like a hidden treasure; they must be sought for, and when found, cultivated with as great care and attention as the most skillful.
Angela Mwandanda is one singer that has made singing an art with a voice that requires the aid of Science to bring its natural powers to perfection...
A short story about yourself:
I am an all round artist who loves to sing (surprise surprise!) cook, dance, watch TV/movies and socialize. I also enjoy my job in advertising. I am in absolute bliss when at the coast, eating carrot /chocolate cake and ultimately I love the studio. You might even say that the feeling one gets before going on a first date is the same one i get when i walk into the studio-I'm excited, anxious and cant wait to see how its going to end!
When did you start music?
As a group we started in 2003. As an individual? all my life! I specifically got out of my shy-shell at age 12 when I sang in front of my primary school at prize giving day. After that I sang at every opportunity I got -despite being terribly shy! for the early part of years i could hardly sing with my eyes open, I was just too shy !!thankfully that has changed..atleast most of that has.
How many albums have you already produced till today?
Tattuu has 6 songs that have been on the airwaves since our debut in 2003. We are now in the process of doing our individual songs so as to complete a max of 12 songs which we will then compile into our album as well as do a launch to appreciate our old and new fans. Each of us as individuals are doing a song solo(singing solo) with the other 2 backing up so that our fans get a chance to experience us as the individuals we are-Debbie, Angie and myself.
What are the singles in your current album?
We mostly sing about relationships, between man and a woman but alot of the time we leave that gap for the listeners to referring to. Most of the content of our songs is based on life experiences, not necessarily our own but even those around us, so as to maintain the connection with our listeners.
What message does your new album carry?
Our songs are about love- new love , love lost, complicated love etc. Our latest single 'come back to me' is about missing the one you love, whether he is gone for a day, a month a year, all you want is for him/her to come back.Ulopa and myself did the writing for this particular song.
Apart from Kenyans which other artists have you worked with?
As a group we have done songs with AY and Ulopa. As a solo artist I have done BGV's for top artists such as Mercy and Aching Abura. I have also recently featured in a reggae song with Redsan and the experience has been phenomenal.I hope to do much more not only with Kenyan artists but South Africa, Nigeria, Tanzania and Uganda artists as well.
What do you say about the music industry in Kenya?
It has grown immensely, particularly the female artists have increased and that's great. when we first debuted we were the only female group in the scene and we were competing with alot of male rap artists who had dominated the Kenyan music industry. With time i believe that artists have become more passionate about production, quality and content of their music and even listeners are acknowledging the growth. I am so happy to be a part of where the music industry is going both locally and Internationally and I'm certain its only going to get better.
Kenyans say that you are the lead singer in the group tattuu. Is it true?
They are very observant!(LOL)Yes I am the lead singer. As a group we have never been in dispute of that. Angie is our main writer for most songs while Debbie is in charge of packaging tattuu and our marketing. We have learnt to practice specialization in the group as each individual has something that only they do so well, and so far it has worked for us. It is for this reason we have managed to stick together for as long as we have-10 years actually! without letting ego's get in the way.
How can you manage family and music?
I'm personally not a parent yet-but Deb and Angie are fabulous mothers. Women have been blessed with multi-tasking and always have time for their children, attend to their full time jobs and be available for studio or rehearsal time- all in a day's work! I suppose because we are all passionate about what we do we are able to be parents, friends, career women as well as artists.
Which Bongo Artist is your favorite?
I would have to be biased towards AY for obvious reasons! but I also appreciate Lady jay dee, TMK, Professor Jay, juma Nature and TID.
Which American artist would you want to to a collabo with?
That's not a fair question-they are many who are so talented-i love Alicia keys,Neyo instantly come to mind. Then of course there is Elaine, john Legend, Estelle, Kanye west......
What are your future expectations?
Once we finalize our compilation as a group I begin to work on a few solo projects which are currently underway. I'm also in the process of starting my own enterprise that will mainly focus on performing and visual arts. By mid this year I hope to have at least established a solid foundation to nurture the arts to where they are suppose to be.
Any word for your fans?
Yes! thanks for past present and future support! we are glad to entertain you!!!
