I WANT YOUR WIFE!

Festival of creative arts (FCA) presents
I want your Wife!
An Original comedy by FCA
@ ALLIANCE FRANCAISE from 4 to 7 and 11 to 14 February 2010

I want your Wife! is set in a middle-class household occupied by
seemingly happy well-to-do couple Sheila and Andrew. Both have been
naughty, however. Both blissfully unaware of their alcohol-clouded
indiscretions of the previous week. Andrew gets sloshed at his office
do and tries it on with a secretary, while Sheila gets friendly with a
younger man after getting pickled at a party. This play is a mishmash
of utter confusion set on a Sunday afternoon where one would expect a
stress free day. Two unexpected guests arrive to break the 'happy'
couple's reverie, throwing their entire relationship into question.
What follows is utter confusion. A series of humorous
misunderstandings and mistaken identities follows as the couples try
to hide their possible infidelities through a string of lies.

Both Sheila and Andrew have had a very drunken and separate Friday
night and are not sure how they behaved. With no harm done and no vows broken they return to their suburban life both forgetting the
invitations they have made to the parties they met on their night
apart. The two guests are people they have met on Friday night who
have arrived full of expectation from their respective ‘lovers’. Enter
Brian, who claims that Sheila had ended up in his flat following a
girls' night out. Brian is here to enjoy a lunch with Sheila, an
invitation she denies giving.

Carole, Andrew’s boss-seeking secretary, arrives with her suitcase
ready for a week with Andrew in Malindi. Andrew had apparently agreed
to run away with Carole to Malindi at an office party. Andrew has
forgotten this invitation. Andrew tries to convince Sheila that Carole
is collecting Jumble for the scouts. They all have a pre-lunch drink
together, all believing the alibis but all instrumental in helping the
alibis fall apart with comical effect. Mistaken identities are used as
excuses and Sheila's friend Jane is her excuse…until she turns up -
and the fun really begins. The plot twists and turns towards a tidy,
if slightly improbable, conclusion.

I want your Wife! has all the ingredients of a good farce: ordinary
characters caught up in extraordinary events, a good dose of comedy,
classic one-liners, and moments of hilarious slapstick.
Sheila is played by Mbeki Mwalimu while is her affable husband, Andrew
is played by Joe Kinyua. Carole, Andrew's pretty secretary, is played
by Njeri Kairu. Brian the amorous young man keen on Sheila is played
by Derrick Amunga. Margaret Karanja is Sheila's friend Jane. Jane Wanjiru is the stage manager. Shem Odhiambo is the marketing coordinator. This farce is directed by Derrick Amunga
and produced by Abuto Eliud.
